This is me in a few years
Changing diapers, drying tears
Smiling through the baby blues
Washing dishes, tying shoes
There comes a time when the whole world
Will rest upon you, boys and girls
So while you have blush in your cheeks
Rest your heads and sleep in peace
This was my mom years ago
She's a grandma now, you know
She tells me "don't wish this away
"Blink and you might miss a day
"Easy, no; but worth the while
"Notice things that make you smile
"And with your children sharing your sheets
"Close your eyes and sleep in peace"
All the temper tantrums and the screams
The attitude, the sibling rivalries
Well, there are nights when my heart's bursting at the seams
And I would never change a single thing
All too soon this house feels cold
Is this a part of growing old?
A home once filled with life and noise
Now void of all my greatest joys
I look at him, he looks at me
Understanding completely
Gives a tired hand a squeeze
Says, "Sweetheart, we can sleep in peace
"We've earned our rest, now sleep in peace"
