When I saw the black starlings fly
Across a moving twilight sky
Flowing easily like a scarf unfurled
Around around around telephone wires
Higher and higher the air parade
Reminded me, what did you say?
It was a momentary murmur of starlings
Twilight lit in the Eastern sky
And that moment found me wondering
If I should even try... to fly
And you know I do remember you
The way we used to laugh and cry
Your hair and scarf becoming one
Like starlings moving 'cross the sky
To me the only difference now
Is that now I know me, myself and I... can fly
Darker still, and evening is falling
Almost thought I heard you calling
Walking in between telephone poles
Wandering under unseen souls
Around, around, around like a starling
Trying to remember where it started
This momentary wake up reason
Seems appropriate for the season
All I can do is look up at the sky
Look up to see those starlings fly... and sigh
And you know I do remember you
The way we used to laugh and cry
Your hair and scarf becoming one
Like starlings moving 'cross the sky
To me the only difference now
Is that now I know me, myself and I... can fly
Like a starling, like the first starling...
Like a starling, like the very first starling...
Like a starling...
