Those Days Are Gone
A summer night in late July
When everything had seemed just right
And I still had time
But so it goes, the days grow cold
And every single story told
Ends in a goodbye
I used to be a better man
Making all the biggest plans
I swore I'd follow through
Now here I am with empty hands
I think I finally understand
The meaning in the truth
I remember driving in my sister's car
With the girl to whom I gave a heart
That she never returned
We listened to our favorite songs
The ones that helped us get along
When we ran out of words
But those days are gone
Can't get 'em back
Been gone for a while now
As a matter of fact
And you can't hold on to what has past
But those days were gone too fast
Feels like yesterday that I was seventeen when
I thought that I knew everything
There was for me to know
Then lessons like the thunder came
And with them fell the pouring rain
And sent me running home
But I'd rather learn than just be told
I'd rather grow than just get old
And reap what I sow
Now and then I still pretend
That I have all the same old friends
I used to know
And it's a shame when people change
But others come to take their place, you learn to let them go
Oh you gotta let them go
Cuz those days are gone
Can't get 'em back
Been gone for a while now
As a matter of fact
And you can't hold on
To what has past
But don't get me wrong t
Those days were gone too fast
Those days were gone too fast
