By the Jordan River, I stood and preached the way,
Calling out for repentance, to prepare for that great day.
A voice crying in the wilderness, the prophet long foretold,
Baptizing with the water, in the faith I stood so bold.
I am John the Baptist, a herald for the King,
Proclaiming His arrival, His praise I always sing.
With water I baptize you, but He brings holy fire,
Prepare the way for Jesus, the one whom we aspire.
The crowds came from the cities, the humble and the proud,
I called them to the water, to cleanse them in the crowd.
I told of One who's greater, whose sandals I'm not fit,
To carry or to loosen, His glory infinite.
I am John the Baptist, a herald for the King,
Proclaiming His arrival, His praise I always sing.
With water I baptize you, but He brings holy fire,
Prepare the way for Jesus, the one whom we aspire.
Then one day He approached me, the Lamb of God, the Light,
He asked for my baptism, to fulfill all that was right.
The heavens opened widely, the Spirit like a dove,
"This is My beloved Son," a voice declared above.
I pointed to the Savior, my mission now complete,
I must decrease before Him, and lay my life at His feet.
For all who came to listen, for all who came to see,
I bore witness to the truth, of Christ who sets us free.
I am John the Baptist, a herald for the King,
Proclaiming His arrival, His praise I always sing.
With water I baptize you, but He brings holy fire,
Prepare the way for Jesus, the one whom we aspire.
By the Jordan River, I fulfilled my sacred call,
A voice crying in the wilderness, preparing for us all.
As we await His kingdom, let's keep our vision clear,
For the coming of the Savior, the time is drawing near.
