Dylan Jakobsen - Working Man Lyrics

My father was a working man,
Grew up on a piece of land down a dirt road,
That didn't have much at all,
Got a job at the corner store,
To pay the bills that they can't afford,
He was 16 in the summer of 84'

Stocking shelves almost every night,
No he aint off till that sun gon' rise,
Told himself that he'd make a life,
Said I just got to give it time

And I'll do my best with what I've got,
Try a little harder and love a lot,
Remember where I came from and who I am,
And when you finally got it all figured out,
Well the man keeps swinging tryin' to bring you on down,
Hell I'm just trying to do the best I can
And when all is said and done I've got a plan
Cause I'm a working man

Saved on up to pay for college,
Read some books and almost lost his job cause he was barely getting sleep
But by the time he was 25 he met a girl that he'd call his wife,
Had a family on the way due any week,
Well late one night he got down on his knees
And he prayed to god that its a boy
Said I hope he's just like me

And I'll do my best with what I've got,
Try a little harder and love a lot,
Remember where I came from and who I am,
And when you finally got it all figured out,
Well the man keeps swinging tryin' to bring you on down,
Hell I'm just trying to do the best I can
And when all is said and done I've got a plan
Cause I'm a working man

Well dad he sat me down one night as he was turning off my light,
Just a little boy,
Said let me say a thing or two,
When all is said and the day is done,
Everybody wants to be someone,
But you gotta keep believing if you're gonna try
You gotta keep your head on hanging high,
Well here's what your granddad told me when I was just your size

I'll do my best with what I've got,
Try a little harder and love a lot,
Remember where I came from and who I am,
And when you finally got it all figured out,
Well the man keeps swinging tryin' to bring you on down,
Hell I'm just trying to do the best I can
And when all is said and done I've got a plan
When all is said I hope you understand
That I'm a working man
I'm a working man
