The 130th Annual Varsity Show - Campfire Song Lyrics

The 130th Annual Varsity Show - Campfire Song Lyrics

There was a girl who moved to New York
It wasn't me but it was New York
She had this illusion this chapter would be
The start of a story just waiting for me
But she was stuck waiting for the plot to begin
Her story was static the way life had been
Why weren't there parties? not ones where you dance
Why weren't their mixers or welcomes a chance
To be part of something beyond just herself
Because four years later she sitting alone like a book on the shelf

Cece was that story about you?

I mean all writers sort of put themselves in their work

Then I have a few questions for Colleen Hoover

I got one

There was a boy who's also not me
Who came to New York with a song and a dream
He loved engineering and inside he knew
There had to be some way to do music too
But his school told him that wasn't a choice
So he had to learn how to silence his voice

We're talking about ourselves right?

What do you mean there wasn't a choice?

Well there's only so many hours in the day

But if he loves music so much he doesn't have to be stuck

It'd be easy if I hated engineering But I don't That's the problem I want them both I mean he wants them both

What was that?

What?

I thought I heard something. Maybe not

Your turn Jen

There was a girl who tried to campaign
She shook hands and kissed babies and did it for change
She lost an election to some gray suit career
He beat her to Congress and so she came here
But those poli sci classes made her sell her soul
And they turned her into a pretentious asshole

Why did she lose?

People are less inclined to believe in someone with actual beliefs Or so she's been told

That can't be right

Columbia isn't all that interested in right
La la la la

There was a girl who was set on a path
She pre-planned her major each schedule and class
Her advisor told her to get a PhD
Commit to a plan and get the degree
And now she feels pressured by what lies beyond
She won't let herself wonder if she chose wrong

I thought you loved Psych?

I do It's just I went to Beyond Barnard once and now I feel like my whole future is locked

You can do a lot with Psych I mean think about how much you've helped us out here

Look around You can't plan for everything

There's something about where we are now that feels like it's easier to be
There's something about where we are how we're farther from home and yet closer to me
Something feels good somewhere in the wood something grows rooted and deep like a tree
Something feels good somewhere farther from home and closer to me

Cece you should be writing this down

What do you mean?

All these ideas about Columbia these changes You should write them down

Great idea

When we're rescued we can share them with everybody

I never really thought about writing that way It's always just been me

We'll help you!

We can do it together

Start a new section in your diary

Okay Okay yeah let's do it

What should go first?

In the core there are stories you're forced to read and I wanted to find one of my own
Looking for that story eclipsed everything else and it left me uninspired and alone
But I found something better I didn't know I could find here
So I won't be sad when I think of my time here
I'm gonna tell you something it might sound a little shady though
Jen, Bernie, Seasar I found the

Somebody's here

Undefeated baby! That's how we do it in Hanover!

Let's go Dartmouth!

Dartmouth! Dartmouth! Yeaaah!
As the backs go tearing by
On their way to do or die
Many sighs and many cheers
Mingle with the Harvard tears
As the backs go tearing by

Where's this party happening?

Oh shit a fire
