The first crocodiles appeared over
200 million years ago
During the triassic period
Despite being categorised with other
Reptiles, they are more closely
Related to dinosaurs and birds
These prehistoric amphibians
Live in wetland areas like
Lagoons, rivers and swamps
They can be found all over the world
Saltwater crocodiles
Are the biggest reptiles
In the world and can be longer than
6.2 metres in length
They have the strongest bite force
Ever measured, they slam their jaws
Shut with a powerful force at nearly
4,000 pounds per square inch
Being cold blooded they have a slow
Metabolism that allows them
To survive months without eating
They swallow stones to act as a ballast
To balance their bodies and crush food
As they're Incapable of chewing
Crocodiles produce tears
Because while eating
They swallow too much
Air which gets in touch with
Lachrymal glands that force tears to flow
Crocodiles will often sleep
With mouths open to release
Heat as a way to regulate their
Temperature as they lack sweat glands
It's documented mothers
Will carry hatchlings to water
In their mouths, babies make noise from inside
Eggs which are then dug up from sand
Though confused with alligators
There are many differences
Crocs have v, shaped jaws with teeth that stick up
Over their lip when their mouths shut
Crocodiles are much bigger
And often lighter in colour
They're able to excrete excess salt
Using glands that are on their tongues
