Memphis In June

Memphis in June
A shade veranda under Sunday blue sky
Memphis in June
And my cousin Amanda she's making a blueberry pie

I can hear the clock outside a ticking and a tocking
Everything is peaceful and dandy
I can see ole granny cross the street still a rocking
Watching the neighbors go by oh my

Memphis in June with sweet oleander
Blowing perfume in the air
Up jumps the moon to make it that much grander
It's paradise brother take my advice
Nothing have as nice as Memphis in June

Georgia On My Mind

Georgia, Georgia
The whole day through
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

I say Georgia, Georgia
A song of you
Comes as sweet and clear
As moonlight through the pines

Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

I said Georgia, Georgia
No peace I find
As just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you

I said Georgia, Georgia
No peace, I find
Just an old, sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my mind

Summertime

Summertime, and the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high
Your daddy's rich and your ma is good-lookin'
So hush little baby, don't you cry

One of these mornings you're gonna rise up singing
You're gonna spread your wings and away you'll fly
But 'til that morning, nothin' will harm you
With Daddy and Mammy standin' by

Summertime, and the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high
Your daddy's rich and your ma, your ma is good-lookin'
So hush little baby, don't you cry

Summertime, summertime, summertime, summertime...

I Cover The Waterfront

Away from the city that hurts and mocks
I'm standing alone by the desolate docks.
In the still and the chill of the night.
I see the horizon, the great unknown.
My heart has an ache its as heavy as stone.
Will the dawn coming on make it light?

I cover the waterfront;
I'm watching the sea.
Will the one I love be coming back to me?

I cover the waterfront;
In search of my love,
And I'm covered by a starless sky above

Here am I patiently waiting, hoping and longing
Oh, how I yearn!
Where are you?
Are you forgetting?
Will you remember?
Will you return?

I cover the waterfront
I'm watching the sea
Will the one I love be coming back to me.

Strange Fruit

Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swingin' in the Southern breeze
Strange fruit hangin' from the poplar trees

Pastoral scene of the gallant South
The bulgin' eyes and the twisted mouth
Scent of magnolias sweet and fresh
Then the sudden smell of burnin' flesh

Here is a fruit for the crows to pluck
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck
For the sun to rot, for the tree to drop
Here is a strange and bitter crop

Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root
Black bodies swingin' in the Southern breeze
Strange fruit hangin' from the poplar trees

God Bless The Child

Them that's got shall get
Them that's not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own
That's got his own

Yes, the strong gets more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don't ever make the grade
Mama may have and Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own

Money, you've got lots of friends
Crowding round the door
When you're gone, spending ends
They don't come round no more

Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But don't take too much
Mama may have and Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own

You Belong To Me

See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle
Just remember darling all the while
You belong to me

See the market place in old Algier
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me

I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too and blue

Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember till you're home again
You belong to me

I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too and blue

Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember till you're home again
You belong to me

September In The Rain

The leaves of brown came tumbling down
Remember, in September, in the rain
The sun went out just like a dying amber
That September in the rain

To every word of love I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play our sweet refrain
Though spring is here, to me it's still September
That September in the rain

To every word of love I heard you whisper
The raindrops seemed to play our sweet refrain
Though spring is here, to me it is still September
That September in the rain

I Can Dream Cant I?

I can see
No matter how near you'll be
You'll never belong to me
But I can dream, can't I
Can't I pretend
That I'm locked in the bend of your embrace
For dreams are just like wine
And I am drunk with mine

I'm aware
My heart is a sad affair
There's much disillusion there
But I can dream, can't I
Can't I adore you
Although we are oceans apart
I can't make you open your heart
But I can dream, can't I

Can't I adore you
Although we are oceans apart
I can't make you open your heart
But I can dream, can't I

The Nearness Of You

It's not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
It's just the nearness of you

It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
It's just the nearness of you

When I'm in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams come true

I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me the right
To hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night the nearness of you

Mood Indigo

You ain't been blue; no, no, no.
You ain't been blue,
Till you've had that mood indigo.
That feelin' goes stealin' down to my shoes
While I sit and sigh, "Go 'long blues".

Always get that mood indigo,
Since my baby said goodbye.
In the evenin' when lights are low,
I'm so lonesome I could cry.

'Cause there's nobody who cares about me,
I'm just as bluer as blue could be.
Always get that mood indigo,
Since my baby said goodbye.

Blues on my mind
Blues all around my head
Blues on my mind
Blues all around my head
Woke up this morning but I'll be better off a day

You ain't been blue; no, no, no.
You ain't been blue,
Till you've had that mood indigo.
That feelin' goes stealin' down to my shoes
While I sit and sigh, "Go 'long blues".

Blues on my mind
Blues all around my head
Blues on my mind
Blues all around my head
Woke up this morning but I'll be better off a day

Back to: Annie Lennox

Nostalgia is the sixth solo studio album by Scottish singer-songwriter Annie Lennox. It was released on 30 September 2014 by Island Records. It was Lennox's first album in four years, and her third album of covers. The album consists entirely of cover versions, mainly of compositions from the Great American Songbook originally written in the 1930s; two compositions initially date from the 1950s. The material was researched and learned by Lennox as she studied archival footage uploaded to YouTube.

Nostalgia debuted at number nine on the UK Albums Chart, becoming Lennox's sixth UK top-10 solo album. It has since been certified Gold by the BPI for sales in excess of 100,000 copies in the UK. It debuted at number 10 on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 32,000 copies, earning Lennox her third top-10 solo album on the chart, as well as her first-ever number-one album on both Billboard's Jazz Albums and Traditional Jazz Albums charts.

It had sold 139,000 copies in the United States as of April 2015. Nostalgia peaked inside the top ten in Austria, Canada, Italy and Switzerland. The album was nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 57th Grammy Awards.
