Barry Joe Stamper - Ridoch Lake (Ode to Dan) Lyrics

I was looking forward to looking back at the time of RidochLake
Though the singing of the dancing loons eased my heartache
To the remote north, along the tracks, we headed out with canoes and packs
Portaged the two mile muskeg trail,
You know it seemed like hell
But the half-moon lit the darkened bay, as we grabbed our oars and we pushed away
I felt that things would be alright, as I carried his ashes in that pack that night
We camped upon the rocky shore,
With the lichen cover and the buzzing roar
Of the bugs so thick like the forest there, I didn't think I could take much more
We awoke in the morning to a shining sun, over bush-style coffee our day began
Then we read the journal of our good friend, then he wrote when he grew from a boy to a man
Then we headed out in our canoes, looking for some journal clues
And there in a trio of poplar trees, an eagle's nest like the one he'd seen
And an eagle perched on a distant shore, guarded its nest as we explored
We had a rather pleasant day, we swam and sipped on Grand Marnier
But as evening fell, the time had come to spread the ashes of our loved one
Eight loons swam in for us to view, they sang us a song and danced for us too
As if to say, things are okay, your friend's spirit has come home today
And we let his ashes drift away, for the final piece at Ridoch Lake
I was looking forward to looking back, at the time of Ridoch Lake
Though the singing of the dancing loons eased my heartache
