Summertime here in Vancouver
The sun is shining and the weather is fine
And I'm down here at Wreck Beach
Watching the people enjoying the sunshine
Something happens to these people
Once the sun comes out after thirty-seven weeks of rain
Their smiling faces interlaces
With music and laughter that fills the air everywhere
Look over there is a guy with a guitar
He's playing songs while everybody sings along
And over there is a woman laughing really hard
Crashing waves and seagulls' screech
The music of Wreck Beach
Summertime here in Vancouver
Sunny days and good times ahead
You'll see smiles you seldom find
In cities where the sun gets taken for granted
Some people, they go to a small cafe
Others take a walk down at Stanley Park
But I'm down here at Wreck Beach
Friendly faces without a care
And a wooden bear
Look over there, it's Mari-Ann
She's hanging out with George and Pam
And over there is a guy smoking some kind of cigarette
Just a minor breach
There's no place like Wreck Beach
Look over there is a pretty girl painting
She's got dark curly hair and sweet brown eyes
And coming over to me is a woman selling fruit
I'll take two apples and a peach
Ah there's no place like Wreck Beach
I'll think I'll go for a swim
Down in the cool blue ocean water
And forget all about her today
And I just took a dip in the ocean
And now I'm letting myself air-dry
Right here on the sand
You know what? It's summertime
