What Irony's For
I couldn't get it right it didn't line up in time
I felt something invisible behind me
A coward I hid on both sides
I didn't think my absence could harm anybody
Now asleep, I'm never alone
Irony's there cold in my clothes
You're a painful desire wrapped in time and space
The rational world just can't fight back
Subways make three hundred stops
None of them are your apartment
I could swear the engineer growled
"I miss you so much" in his announcement
I need you to come through one more time
For the same reasons, the same old "why's"
What I've learned I take where I go
Chances dissolve that's what irony's for
