Brick House - The Hate Shake Lyrics

Well, Jesus emerged from the desert one day, head like a smoking gun
Brain aboil with faith till God said, "Sorry, you ain't my son"
Well, Jesus' head was full of rage, he went right down to the river there
And he brought upon us pestilence as he rubbed mud in his hair

Well, Jesus shuffled
And Jesus jittered
And he shook like a pole
And he jittered some more

He went to the Aborigines
And he dreamt in twenty-five colours
He'd have gone to the Roman Catholic Church
Were it not for his equal number of lovers
He took up with a smith
And he took up with a jailer
But with every new profession his complexion grew paler
Well, Jesus came slowly down to earth and he realised who he was
And he realised like everyone else he was a man of women, alcohol and cars

And Jesus shuffled
And Jesus jittered
And he shook like a pole
And he jittered some more

By 1997, he'd reached his final year of college
But the sort of questions he wanted answered couldn't be answered by knowledge
So one dark morn in the grocery store while he was nursing some real blues
This seductress in a fine black dress boomed to him like the head of hot-pressed news

Well, love blew out his eyes
Like a river it was his lust ran
And she leered at him with greed equally grim
And he got down and offered his hand

The wedding was a brief affair, in their affair were they briefly wed
When one white eve she threw back her black hair, took out a knife and said
"Jesus Christ, you don't set me alight, you've crossed me three times and it just ain't right
I mean I've heard about you and your seeing death through
But I'm gonna have your life tonight"

Well, Jesus' wife she had words to say
And she said them with a twelve-inch knife
And suddenly he sat right beside the Lord
Chewing on the bones of his life

And the Lord shuffled
And the Lord jittered
And he shook like a pole
And he jittered some more
And the Lord looked round
And he threw some love shapes
And the Lord looked down
And he did the hate shake
