In the heart of the city, where the lights never dim
Lived a girl named Lily, trapped in a life so grim
She grew up fast, in a house of shattered glass
Her father was a shadow, her mother wore a mask
At sixteen, she moved out, found a flat on Baker's Street
Worked nights at a diner, barely making ends meet
She met a man named Johnny, who seemed to have a plan
But behind his gentle smile, was a cruel, violent hand
Lily, why you always so silent
The neighbors heard him yell through the walls
Do you think I want to be violent
But Lily never answered his calls
One night, he came home late, eyes full of rage
Lily in the corner, praying for a different page
"You're nothing but trouble," he spat with a sneer
And the fists came crashing down, fueled by anger and fear
Her world went black, the room spun 'round
As she lay on the floor, without a sound
A neighbor called for help, heard the screams through the night
But by the time they broke the door, she was out of sight
Lily, why you always so silent
The echoes of his fury still rang
Do you think I want to be violent
But Lily's silence was the only refrain
In the cold sterile light of the emergency room
Lily fought for breath, under the shadow of doom
A doctor took her hand, said We'll do what we can
But Lily just whispered, Please, save my little man
In the heart of the city, under skies of gray
Lily's life slipped away, but her baby saw the day
A story of sorrow, in the city lights' glare
Of Lily's lament, and a new life to spare
Lily, why you always so silent
The neighbors heard him yell through the walls
Do you think I want to be violent
But Lily never answered his calls
