It was not an easy choice
To uproot and board a plane
One last glimpse of Ireland
Fore she raised above the clouds
She landed in Australia
A world away from fields of green
Found a way to make a living
Still sees Ireland when she dreams
Oh no, not me
Says she, she doesn't want to be
So far away from family
So far across the sea
She wishes one day to be back among her own
And the green, green grass of Ireland
Her home
There's a longing in her heart
To breathe the clean, fresh air of home
Feel the dew rest in the evening
See her nephew, to see how he's grown
Alas she had to emigrate
An Australian dollar she must make
Still in her heart, there is desire
To see the green, green grass of home
Oh no, not me
Says she, she doesn't want to be
So far away from family
So far across the sea
She wishes one day to be back among her own
And the green, green grass of Ireland
Her home
