Well it's hard to leave behind a flame
One that knocked you off your two feet and took away all the seeds you reaped
It's hard to run away
To leave it all in these hills to head south and try to get your fill

But we left a forest fire in them Appalachian mountains
One that burned too high and fast one that water couldn't kill
It started too doggone good it could only go straight down from there
So I just up and left and ran from the hills

Well it hurts to get burnt
Especially when there's no one there to let you know that they care
It hurts to get a broken heart
To get left out on the porch to dry and to get saved for another time
It hurts
