Dave Farah - My Parents Bought a House Lyrics

Growing up wasn't all that bad
Had most everything I'd need
We all stayed together; roof was overhead
About as happy as could be

Sure, my family fought, and my brother took his swings
But we made it through those awkward years all right

My parents bought a house
In a little northern town
And we found a way to make that place a home
Spent every day we could
Cooking something good
Watching how the stars would start to roam
Looking back on all of that right now
My life began because my parents bought that house

After graduation, my brother moved away
"It's not that far to California"
Now we hardly talk, there's no need for blame
Time zones are farther than they warn you

He's got his own life: a dog, a job, a wife
And he seems to be just fine out where he is

But my parents bought a house
In a little northern town
Nowadays, we don't get up there much
We talk about a trip
How we shouldn't let it sit
But life is just too busy for that stuff
Looking back on all of that right now
It breaks my heart 'cause no one stuck around

Mom and Dad are older, they want to settle in
But they'll go anywhere we are
My brother and myself, still so self-involved
We keep following our hearts

We should really try to train or even drive
No matter how damn far away it is

Cause my parents bought a house
In a little northern town
Where I made every single favorite memory
We all grew up up there
In the old New England air
The innocence we felt, it set us free
Looking back on that, I'd say I'm proud
They're the 'why' for who I am right now
I needed just to hear it said out loud
My life began because my parents bought that house
