I was walking down a fiery trail
Took me down to a stone valley
Very narrow walls
And I came to the end of the trail
There was a river
With an old tree
A leafless oak
In its branches was a raven
Looking down at me
And out of the mud of the river
Came crawling something I'd never seen before
Some kinda beast
And he didn't look like he was happy to see me
Well I looked around and I couldn't go back
I couldn't go forward
So, I just let him come at me
He looked at me
And wiped some of the mud from his eyes
And said. "Man I can't see...
I can't see anything with all this mud on me...
Can you help me?"
I looked at him... I said, "I don't know...
It doesn't seem like a good idea"
He said, "I'll give you everything I have...
If you help me get this mud off my eyes"
I said, "How'm I gonna do that?...
I mean I don't have anything to clean your eyes off with"
The raven up in the tree
Looking down at me
He knew I was lyin'
But he kept his mouth shut
So, the beast came at me
Still unable to see
And I backed myself into a crevice
In the tightest corner of the wall
He walked right by me
I could smell him
Mud creature
And he disappeared up that fiery trail
I heard later he was arrested
Taken into custody
He got 30 days
For drunk and disorderly
I mean when I heard that I felt bad
It's just like you know
Me and that crow
We both know we could'a helped him
I could'a helped him
But it wasn't none of the crow's business
And it was'nt none of mine
So I just got in that boat
And I rowed across that river
And I didn't look back
I just kept goin'
