David J. Caron - Fear of the Dragon Forgotten Lyrics

In a far distant land where an endless mount stands
A hidden truth remains forgotten
Passed down through the years fearsome tales balladeered
The Legend of the fear of the dragon
Several hundred feet tall wings that cut castle walls
A fire-breathing beast Armageddon
With great sharp talons it severs as it devours whoever
In flames roasts all alive in split seconds

When stories were told they all lived in fear of the dragon
Offered a bounty in gold, if only one who'd defeat it was gotten

One day a stranger arrived with a brave heart inside
He said I will alone slay your dragon
All I need is my sword and to give me your word
That my deed nor will I be forgotten
'Fore your journey begins you must know said the king
If the beast sense your fear he'll awaken
Through the dark you must tread 'mongst the bones of the dead
Where before those whose courage forsakened

You believe I will burn, but I alone will go face the Dragon
And With its heart I'll return, and then no more you'll fear your Dragon

So with his blade to defend him at the lair of the beast
As he entered the darkness almost breath and heart ceased
He un-trembled his fears lest they awoke from deep sleep
The snores in the depths from the dragon

Finally he approached his gargantuan host, slowly sparkling dragon emerald eyes opened.
As the majestic arose, the intruder's heart froze, 'til the behemoth did tower above him
Stand back beast from Hell, now your reign here has fell, he said the time is for vengeance upon thee
But with accusers surprise, just a tear filled the eye, as the dragon's sadness fell a-from him

Brave Sir disarm, I've brought you no harm why must you need kill a dragon?
I beseech thee defer, as your eyes can concur, I'm just alone and forgotten

For uncountable years I've been imprisoned here
With a longing to live without bringing all fear
For the shape I true am has been with lies only smeared
Only tall tales were told of the dragon
If you trust me a life I will pledge in return
To the world I'll bring warmth never flames thought to burn
Take me back to your folk so my truth they may learn
And never you'll be forgotten

Said the brave lord, I'll give you my word, I truth shall defend for you dragon
So in two they returned, and with true story learned, now no more the world feared the dragon
