Father of generations
A captive of time's sands
Never will I forget
Those strong loving hands
Let not the scars fool you, nor the calluses betray
Those strong, weathered hands always kept fear away
Those hands that held the hammer to build a loving home
Also held me tight, when I felt all alone
Those hands guided a plow to prepare the earth
Those hands guided a child to value his own worth
Strong loving hands, keeping me on track
Guiding me and teaching me to stand
And though they were callused and cracked
I miss the comfort of those hands
And though they were callused and cracked
I miss the comfort of those hands
In solemn reflection, those hands clasped in prayer
Asking for the safety of those within their care
Never raised in anger, the fist remained unclenched
Instead those hands cupped and my thirst was quenched
Those strong hands never stopped doing so much
But they always had time for a gentle touch
Strong loving hands, keeping me on track
Guiding me and teaching me to stand
And though they were callused and cracked
I miss the comfort of those hands
Those hands gave me roots and wings
Those hands taught me many things
Clapping when I had success
Praying to keep me blessed
Through every heartache, every fall
Those hands were there for it all
Father of generations
A captive of time's sands
Never will I forget
Those strong loving hands
Those hands gave me roots and wings
Those hands taught me many things
Clapping when I had success
Praying to keep me blessed
Through every heartache, every fall
Those hands were there for it all
Father of generations
A captive of time's sands
Never will I forget
Those strong loving hands
