Six Jan 1839
Balmy winter's day
Warm under blue sky
A blizzard yesterday
Left snow upon the ground
A perfect Irish winter scene
Today, it's melting in the sun
Waiting for the night of fury
An eerie calm descends upon the land
Waiting for the night of fury
The coming ordeal we pray we can withstand
Basking in the sun 23 degrees
The strangest of winter days
Darkness falling in the day
The clouds are building up
Becoming quite the frightening sight
Waiting for the night of fury
An eerie calm descends upon the land
Waiting for the night of fury
The coming ordeal we pray we can withstand
Over the ocean, cold and warm collide
Like giants of old fighting o'er the sky
Unleash their fury under raging winds and angry skies
Hundreds and hundreds have died
In Dublin town, one in four houses down
Crushed and crumbled into dust
Tens of thousands all homeless
Afraid and all things lost
Ships dashed upon the shore, torn like ragged dolls
Livelihoods destroyed and smashed today
The unlucky ones slipped beneath the waves
More than 40 ships in their watery graves
Death and fear o'er the land
All of us today
A family of Irish blood
Shared history and pain
The Irish heart is strong and good
We'll be one again
After all is said and done
We'll remember them
We'll not forget them
We'll tell their tale
We'll tell the tale
To those yet to come
Pass their story on
Of what was the night of fury
