The Downcast - Sandpaper Lyrics

The Downcast - Sandpaper Lyrics

I wore my truth upon my breast You tore it off and sanded it to lies I smiled the smile that I thought you sought But you sanded it down to a toothless frown I extended these open arms to you And you sanded them down to functionless stumps I opened my mouth and sang you a rainbow You sanded the notes and brought the rain again You're sandpaper sanding me away turning me to dust from the inside out I will always applaud your honesty And I will never forget your kindness There is no regret in innocence Never let anyone take it away I spoke the honesty that my heart perceived You sanded every word yet spoke none of your own I've given everything so all that's left is my live You'd sand that too if you could reach it You're sandpaper sanding me away turning me to dust from the inside out. Price
Finding the balance between family, work and the self was a struggle for the adults in my life growing up. I'm not sure I'm doing much better but I'm trying. I wrote this song originally about my dad but now it seems more like its about me.

A song in defense of the hardcore kids back in the day who dared express their vulnerability in public. Still Life is always the band that comes to mind.
