I am told to write about the city at night
I am shown the burnt skyscrapers in my mind's eye, blurring rhythmically with my breath
I smell the night rain as it lunges and pours, drips and dries
Night rain playfully motions sunshine to come nearby
Sunshine the cosmic fool, he comes forward in a flashing trance
He is full of hopes
He is anxious to speak, to sing, to be willing
In his footsteps you can hear the words "come, come, come and sing along"
Night rain senses this new rhythm emerging from the west side of town
This rhythm, to her, is too quick and eager
Like a jagged arrow or an autumn shadow
Like a lightning flash or a falling tower
Like a commander in chief, arms at the ready
Night rain pours herself onto the sun's rays
There is a commotion for a moment, a steam rising up in the sky
Sunshine hears the message loud and clear
He softens his gaze and swiftly departs night rain's domain
