Hello
I'm originally from kitchener which is 100km southwest of toronto
For context
In the 1800s
Present day kitchener was known as berlin
During ww1
Berlin was changed to kitchener to avoid notions of disloyalty to canada and rising anti-german ideals that came from the war
After ww2
Kitchener led canada in welcoming german refugees who fled or were forced out of eastern european states
City hall is in the centre of downtown kitchener and the area gets a lot of foot traffic
The monument tis a 14 metre long, two tonne bronze relief
It was unveiled on Oct 14, 2000
