In the glow of the crystal moon
And the rays from the honey sun
The mineral blue Earth
Is so beautiful
The sky opens up
To the galaxies of planets and stars
Amongst such beauty
Why is life so hard
Why with so much intelligence
On this planet
Does one culture
Slaughter another
Oppression and judgement
So deep
It's impossible to find peace
In one's Self
Even when asleep
Memories of abuse
Seep to the surface
Ravaging the day
And pushing
A sense of safety away
Certainly searing judgement
Seems clear
When I use my voice
And others close their ears
Not wanting to hear the truth
The reality so cruel
That peace and safety
Appear to be threatened
When hearing of
Others' misfortunes
And the crazy human behaviors
Not as the exception
But sometimes as the rule
Hearing of wars in families
The domestic violence
Criminal offenses
Rapes and Brutalities
That override
Each victim's defenses
I get the wall you put up
As you turn the other way
And cut me off
I get the shame, denial, and blame
You put on me, to shut me up
Why listen to the truth
Why know another person's reality
When you can so easily, just turn away
And pretend everything's okay
You can pretend
But I Cannot
My body remembers
The attacks and every brutal shot
Every attempt
To break me down to nothing
So that those doing the harm
Feel a powerful something
A way to bolster up
Their feelings of control
A way to make me lose
My sense of feeling whole
I'm forced to reject
Parts of myself
The parts overpowered
By your slaughter
The mental anguish is encrypted
As I try to protect my own Self
As my sense of security
Is brutally lifted
As my whole sense of worth
Has been shifted
Along with my sense of trust
In you, me
And humanity
