The Everyday Bite - Viking Blood Lyrics

The Everyday Bite - Viking Blood Lyrics
Official

I was told I have Viking Blood
Which would explain why my heart always feels like a pillaged village
No room for love in a place where the sun is shrouded in the eclipse of approaching ships
Each one carrying the myth to my bones
And ugly truths of men as fathers
Who thought conquering was equal to cultivating
I have chunks removed
And internal bruising from a lineage of rough waters
Enclosed in oblivion
A horizon closing with the final waltz of your eyes
Sky petrified in darkness
Cold skin I want to swallow
Can I cannibalize a rusted kings powers into my veins
Will the clouds rain down on me
Within me
Will the cotton caught above your head nurture what was kept hidden
Into this cavity born of being a child lost
In the war of man's hands that resemble mine
But always seem to reach for more ocean to drown the sadness away
Than rest on my heart when I needed them to
I was told I have Viking Blood and it seeps through me
A syrup from an ancient tree
Your lips stuck from it
Refusing to let slip what wallowed in your throat
From the hapless pits of fire and ash
That stewed about with the constant fight to prove something to nobody
To remain atop a hill nobody was ever facing or attempting to take from you
The land was scorched and the only torch left was fading in your palm
A storm distinguishing over wreckage and tears
From years living in the turmoil of needing to be all triumph
With no ability to recognize the tragedy
Trailing from your heels
To a family's desire wanting to know what soft walls resided
In the center of your self prescribed annihilation
I was told I have Viking Blood
And I want to scream until it curdles
Mummifying me from under the very flesh you gave me
I want to transfuse the history and heartache from the silent tombs you carry
The ones I feel alive and haunting me
Keeping the peace of this burial at bay
I was told I have Viking Blood
But all I want is for my body to bloom
With the shadows I knew in short distance
When your guard was down
And life glowed golden on your face
For my pulse to free you from its grip
So I can reclaim my life
And become more than just a man that wears another man's name
I was told I have Viking Blood
But I don't want it
Because there is no Norse God watching over me
No army waiting to perish me in amber flames of ocean
No legacy to fulfill
Just the memories of a man
Both fallible and beautiful
