It'd be nice to get away
From the mean old things they say
I'd like to know the reason that we stay
There's a nicer place to be
It's out across the sea
It's out and far away from this old misery
But you look at me and smile
And say we've got to stay awhile
I'm not sure what she meant in that smile
So we press on through the dog days
Saying don't worry it's just a phase
We've got nothing to lose but each other
We hold our grimy hands
Those muscles understand
When our worried words just won't land
We're old and we're tired
There's silence 'round the fire
But it's alright if I'm by her
And it's alright, 'cause I'm right here
