Jacob's father sits down with his son
Heart is heavy yet he knows it must be done
His little boy's now grown into a man
A soldier off to fight for his land
"My son," he said "some doubts may fill your mind
Have faith in God, and grace you will find
Hold on to the values we've instilled
Let freedom and courage be your shield
Lay down this sacrifice
Freedom has its price
Brave son perilous night
In fields of blood
The angels cry
With a Spirit full of valor shining bright
Jacob stands with soldiers side by side
Now marching strong, brave, and true
Fighting for the red, white, and blue
In fields of strife, where cannons roared
The battle raged on, and bullets soared
Through the smoke and cries of pain
He's fatally wounded in the rain
Lay down this sacrifice
Freedom has its price
Brave son perilous night
In fields of blood
The angels cry
Fighting through the carnage violence reigns
Blood red stains the earth's dark veins
On the battlefield he gave his all
Soldier's fate, his final call
Under dark skies, where shadows weep
The angel's touch, a vow to keep
In agony's grip, he finds release
Mercy's wings grant him peace
A silent whisper "show me grace"
Wraps around a warm embrace
Angel of mercy, wings unfurled
Descends and shields him from the world
As dawn broke, the battle ceased
Jacob slowly rises to his feet
A miracle before their eyes
His comrades hearts now open wide
Full of wonder they gathered round
New found faith the soldiers found
Through the trials they all faced
Now united in God's embrace
Let this story echo true
That Jacob's life has been renewed
In the darkness there is light
Power to Christ in all his might!
Lay down this sacrifice
Freedom has its price
Brave son perilous night
In fields of blood
The angels cry
Lay down this sacrifice
Freedom has its price
Brave son perilous night
In fields of blood
The angels cry
