The customers file in one by one and
Wait up for the line to be done and
When they get right to the front
The lady at the checkout rings them up
She smiles and asks about your day and
Then she asks how you will pay and
Then she scans your items in and
She throws the hangers in a bin
She folds the clothes and then she tucks away the tag
And then she throws the items in a bag
And when you're ready she will give you
The receipt and then
She will be smiling as you go
And as you start to walk away
She will be talking to the
Next person in line waiting for her
She checks out the customers one by one and
She always takes them as they come and
When at last the day is done
The lady at the checkout has her fun
She turns out the light and locks the door and
She smiles as she leaves the store and
Goes to live her life away to
Come back for another day of
Folding clothes and getting rid of all the tags
And throwing all the items in a bag
And waiting up until you're ready
For the receipt and then
She will be smiling as you go
And as you start to walk away
She will be talking to the
Next person in line waiting for her
The days they fly by one by one and
Some things go and others come yet
All the while the world has spun
She keeps on checking out everyone
She's always smiling and singing a song and
She always moves the line along and
Makes sure everyone's feeling fine when
They get right to the front of the line
She folds the clothes and then she tucks away the tag
And then she throws the items in a bag
And when you're ready she will give you
The receipt and then
She will be smiling as you go
And as you start to walk away
She will be talking to the
Next person in line that's there and
You can feel it in the air that
Life speeds on, nothing remains but
The lady at the checkout stays the same
