Guitar George Pjevach - Bodie Lyrics

Guitar George Pjevach - Bodie Lyrics

By God I'm going to Bodie By God goodby God
By God I'm going to Bodie By God goodby God

Helen's father packed the wagon train to move to a better life
She cried in back as they rode away from home
He said when I strike it rich I'll buy you pretty things
And as they rode, in her diary she wrote this down. She wrote

By God I'm going to Bodie By God goodby God
By God I'm going to Bodie By God goodby God

When mining began to decline by Sierra's western slope
Prospectors moved on in search of gold
Waterman S. Bodey in search of his prize
Found gold in 1859
But He died in a blizzard the following November
While going to Monoville for supplies

Everybody feared the Bad Man of Bodie
He'd kill ya if you looked him in the eye
Murders shootouts barroom brawls and stagecoach robberies
Daily 3 people died

The morning after she arrived Helen heard the crack of bullet fire
And ran to see what caused the noise
The bad man of Bodie shot a man in the road
Only 2 feet away from his foe
The wounded man got to his knees and fired the fatal shot
The loser buried outside the graveyard gate And she wrote

By God I'm going to Bodie By God goodby God
By God I'm going to Bodie By God goodby God

A cold and desolate ghost town died in 1917
It's so quiet now you can hear your footsteps following you
If you don't get out fore winter blows you'll be stuck in 20 feet of snow
And if you visit, word has it you'll be cursed

Some say Bodie was a sea of sin lashed by lust and passion
Sixty-four brothels and saloons
Before you go searching look at all that you possess
And be grateful for the gifts you've been blessed She knew

By God I'm going to Bodie By God goodby God
By God I'm going to Bodie By God goodby God
