He sits by the supermarket with his knees beneath his coat
No money in his pockets, not a cry left in his throat.
He doesn't ask for nothing, he just sits with his head down
The same as I, he's tried and tried
But he can never leave this town
Inside there's a woman working, stacking shelves and cashing tills
She barely makes a living and the boredom nearly kills
She smokes one every morning til her feet don't touch the ground
The same as I, she's tried and tried
But she can never leave this town
Upstairs in the office there's an old boy in a tie
A young girl brings him coffee and he'd like to catch her eye
He doesn't love his family but he'd never let them down
The same as I, he's tried and tried
But he can never leave this town
You look on out the window, you see a young man off his head
He screams along the road he wishes he was dead
And though everybody hears him, no one looks around
The same as I, they try and try
But they can never leave this town
