The last of the springtime flowers are out
As another long summer rolls in
Another great year in the rear-view mirror
And the festivities begin
Though it's the most wonderful time of the year
For sometimes I can fail to see all the cheer
My most precious present won't be here in time for Christmas
Everyone hangs up their stockings and sacks
Hoping for their full wishlists
Generosity peaks just this one time a year
And for once some union exists
And this sends me joy and the same to yourself
But I sometimes think I'd leave it all on the shelf
If my most precious present could be here in time for Christmas
I thought this might be my year
Oh, where did I go wrong this time my dear
Maybe if I didn't try so hard
You'll come round for Christmas next year
I still embrace all the love and the hope
Raising my glass to each toast
And while finding a way throughout every each day
I'm missing the one I love most
What change should I make in the coming new year
To get out of my seat and be the gondolier
So my most precious present will be here in time for Christmas
Maybe I might be in love
I thought it might be a sign from above
But 'tis the season to be glad
So I'll be home for Christmas
This year
