Heikki Rasilo - Back Into the Sea Lyrics

Heikki Rasilo - Back Into the Sea Lyrics

I went to see him, when my hero came to town
I walked alone by the seaside listening to the ships and waves
Came from the south, where the sun did burn our cheeks
Saw you disappear in a cloud of dust, when I left you lonely at the pier

All through the winter months, the wind did freeze our hair
You were sad in the evenings, struck by isolation and lack of friends
We sat up the hill, heard the dogs bark down in the valley
Wondering what on earth were we doing here, how did our lives take this turn

And I went out in the midnight, staring at the stars
The same old ones in different places, looking down with pale old faces
Late in the dark room, I'd stay and watch you sleep
Hoping that you were somewhere nicer, warmer and friendlier, something more like home

We broke free and took the wheels, as far as we could get
From the fish stands at the beaches, through the old white villages
In the fevered border town where only time remained frozen
We slept with the sound of crickets, in the yellow glow of the street lights

When we reached the ocean, we could do nothing else but stare
We washed the dirt of the travel, with the salty seawater
Saw all the sailing ships, return home before sundown
Until the cold wind came and we escaped, back to the town before the rain

And I walked down to the dark pier, thinking of the times
My dad and I'd row in the sunshine, go swimming on the islands
The same lake water, would slowly make its way
Flowing south in the small streams, and here into the ocean, back in to the sea
