Under the tent with a painted white frown
A killer clown came into town
He dreamed of the stage with a cowboy's plea
But the judges shook their heads said "No not me"
He left that day with a tear in his eye
Swore he'd get them back make them cry
With a honky-tonk heart and a steel-cold hand
He tracked them down across the land
They told him no so he showed them how
A crooned melody in the dead of night now
One by one at their doors he'd appear
A clown's laughter hiding deadly fear
At the first judge's home he softly sang
A lullaby of sorrow with a knife's sharp clang
He sang his song until the moon set low
Left behind a silence where the judge won't go
Next was a woman who said "forget your dreams"
The clown's voice carried on shadowed streams
He serenaded her with a tender lie
Then left her cold under the quiet sky
They told him no so he showed them how
A crooned melody in the dead of night now
One by one at their doors he'd appear
A clown's laughter hiding deadly fear
