So will it be with the resurrection of the dead
A body that is sewn is perishable, it is made imperishable
It is sewn in dishonor it is raised in glory
It is sewn in weakness, it is raised in power
When I was young I had a liver of steel
So I would drink 'til I couldn't feel
But the more I had, the more I'd drink
The less I could comprehend and think
I made my mistake, and I got into a car
But I didn't go anywhere, no I didn't go far
And as I lay thinking this is the end
I looked on up and saw an old friend
So I promised God if I made it through this
I'd give it all up, yeah the stuff I'd miss
And my friend wouldn't shake my hand
Just as I promised, I gave up my drinkin'
But the lord knows I wasn't thinkin'
And I smoked a pack of cigs everyday
I was killing myself in the worst way
My only chance was for a surgery
But the doc said the odds, well they didn't favor me
And as I lay thinking this is the end
I looked on up and saw an old friend
And I promised God if I made it through this
I'd give it all up, yeah the stuff I'd miss
And my friend wouldn't shake my hand
Just as I promised, I gave up my smokin'
And the Lord knows I wasn't jokin'
The rest of my life I was well behaved
I corrected myself of my destructive ways
And then one day when I was old and grey
I saw an old friend, yeah a familiar face
He walked on over, and I understand
That its my time so I shook his hand
I promised God if I made it through this
I'd give it all up, and I sure as hell did
And my friend he shook my hand
He shook my hand
