(I'm trying not to slip)
It's so pithy and so easy to say
You've never failed anyone and you're not gonna start today
But you hold the scales and you place the weights
And burdens heavy or light are burdens just the same
So what's the measure, the matter
What's the real mistake
When I know you're faithful to forgive
You're faithful to save
But are you faithful any other way
(I'm trying not to slip)
It's sounds simple but it still feels alleged
Talking you up to talk myself down from the ledge
While I have watched the whole world passing me by
Living for themselves the dreams I thought you would provide
So what's the measure, the matter
What's the real mistake
When I know you're faithful to forgive
You're faithful to save
But are you faithful any other way
(I'm trying not to slip)
I have tried to be faithful, to behave and to hope
But what does it matter with nothing to show
But I shouldn't tempt you, I know
So I won't throw myself from the edge
But I won't lie
Right now I'm not trying not to slip
(Why should I try not to slip?)
When I know you're faithful to forgive
You're faithful to save
But I don't know if you're faithful any other way
Here in the middle
When your faithfulness still feels alleged
Why should I keep talking you up
To talk myself down from the ledge
