Towards Ireland free
That was the cause of Terence McSwiney
A poet and a gael
He died on hunger strike in Brixton gaol
After seventy four days
Brave McSwiney passed away
Towards Ireland free
The Lord Mayor of Cork strove fearlessly
Court-martialed for the Cause
His writings railed against England's void laws
After seventy four days
Brave McSwiney passed away
And in the end when I think of the beauty
Of dear old Ireland the land that I love
I'm moved so humbly to fulfil my duty
So I say goodbye, with honour I die
Towards Ireland Free
Some thirty thousand people came to see
His body as it lay
In Southwark Cathedral so far away
And the whole world saw the pride
Of this patriot who died
And in the end when I think of the beauty
Of dear old Ireland the land that I love
I'm moved so humbly to fulfil my duty
So I say goodbye, with honour I die
