To wake up in the morning is fine
But then sometimes
During the night
I've heard the hounds calling
And a feeling of dejection may then appear
For it was not that sound that brought any fear
Rather the call to follow the pack
Running to power on some hapless track
To wake up in the morning is fine
But then sometimes
During the night
I've heard the hounds calling
And sing a song of an alien answer
Tell a story of a moonlight dancer.
For the blood runs deep in the mind of man
Remembering days that it was he who ran
And perhaps without that star bent halter
For which a man might yet falter
One hearing the pack would mount that horse
To ride unthinking on a hellbent course
And I would cry for man to fail
If during the day the hounds did wail
And mounting that steed he followed the path
A tunnel of darkness bringing infinite wrath
To wake up in the morning is fine
But then sometimes
During the night
I've heard the hounds calling.
