Laredo Jim Lacey - Whistleblower Blues Lyrics

Laredo Jim Lacey - Whistleblower Blues Lyrics

The order the king signed was harsh and resolute
It was his oath in writing that he would execute
"The nation's filthy whistleblowers, incorrigible spies
Guilty all of treason and therefore they must die."

He had the prison blacksmith forge a giant whistle
To be blasted loud and clear as each spy fried and sizzled
A stark reminder as they sat bound to that awful chair
That they had crossed "The Chosen One", how ever did they dare

Fry and sizzle, you dirty rotten spies
Fry and sizzle with all your dirty lies
Fry and sizzle you whistleblowin' spies
Fry and sizzle, your Fake News and your lies

But one day he did go too far and there was strong resistance
An angry mob insisted that he must face impeachment
Found guilty of a quid quo pro, he launched a masquerade
And then he blew the whistle on his life-long trusted aides

This sent the people up in arms, their cry was resolute
The law must strictly be obeyed and they must execute
The nation's filthy whistleblowers, incorrigible spies
Even if their king were guilty, he must also fry

So on a chilly morning, he finally met his due
As one last time the whistle played the Whistleblower Blues
Melted into bells the song that rings rings from them today
Reminds the world Free Speech must be the only speech in play

Fry and sizzle, those who'd be a king
Fry and sizzle and remember this one thing
What goes around doth come around to all, to me and you
Beware tomorrow don't bring you
The Whistleblower Blues
