Some nights I've seen little dancing pieces of light
Some nights I've wondered how they're able to light up the night
Are they just there to help us see beauty in their flickering dance
Do they want us to truly see them, so they shine when given a chance
What about the lightning bugs that light up the night
How do they become so brave to burn so bright
How do they find the strength to fly so high in the sky
What makes them light up, what makes them try
Some nights I wonder if there's anyone alone in the dark
Some nights I've seen other children who had to sleep in the park
Are they as afraid as I am when I wake up at night
Do their daddies pick them up and squeeze them so tight
What about the lightning bugs that aren't able to light their own way
Will they shine brighter if they just had a place to stay
What about the lightning bugs that try to fly out of the night
What will it take for them to find their own light
We can help each other see the light
