I've got a book on a shelf it's dusty
Next to my penknife that's gone rusty
It's been a while up there smells musty
But it sure is worth a read
The story tells a tale of my life
A page turner from side to side
This book ain't finished right now
I've got another chapter to write
Fell in love with a lady I knew
Head over heels nothing I wouldn't do
She didn't care for me that left a bruise
Just another thing to get through
It's real good to hear she's safe
She's happy and healthy and doing great
It's such a shame it didn't go my way
But that's another chapter to write
The foreword reads to anyone that sees
A handwritten note signed by me
I dedicate this to the ones I miss
My family and friends who got me though this
I've stood my ground a time or two
Got myself in a tight spot and taken a few
I'm not one to run from a fight
That's another chapter to write
I've worked hard for the money I've earned
I've loved and lost and lived and learned
Been on adventures and always returned with
Another chapter to write
Blow off the dust, wipe down the front
Find a comfy chair and read chapter one
More ups than downs, I've always been a clown
Laughter naturally follows me round
The book grows thicker, my hair goes thinner
You'll read I've been a good man more than a sinner
I've had the best time my life's been a winner
That's my last chapter to write
