Headin' up to Yukon for the gold
Pickin's rich and plenty I've been told
Mining town was empty, cold and bare
Then I saw those locks of auburn hair
Followed her to every part of town
Watched those men all put their money down
Would she always look at me the same?
Even when I'd given her my name
Guess I must have lost my mind
Not like me to be unkind
Would she ever change her ways with me?
Now I face the consequence of this tragic accident
About to lose my liberty
At the gallows tree
Found that body lying in the street
Caked in blood and dust from head to feet
For this heinous crime I have to pay
But that hanging judge he sent me off to sway
Guess I must have lost my mind
Not like me to be unkind
Would she ever change her ways with me?
Now I face the consequence of this tragic accident
About to lose my liberty
At the gallows tree
