Malcolm DeWayne - Back in the Day Lyrics

I reflect on my early days
Back before we had xbox and myspace
Dudes rocked the shag and high top fades
And we was rocking LA Gears and BKs
And the hottest thing out was sonic, dr. Dre's the chronic
But after j.j. Fad dropped super sonic
Some played kickball. Others played 4-square
And we just threw it in the air like we don't care
Reading rainbow, magic schoolbus
Ricky Martin was still part of menudo
Bill Cosby gave us a coke and a smile
And Bill Clinton gave us hope for a while
This was before we even heard about the Internet
Commercials talked about crack not cigarettes
A gallon of gas was the same price as a small bag of chips
And every body watched the fresh prince
I guess I have a bad habit of reminiscing
I use my past tense to enhance my future vision
Y2k made the the whole world superstitious
And now 2012 got the whole world tripping
It's kinda funny how we talk about blowing up
But when I was young we talked about growing up
These young kids that hear this may be like so what
But these old heads that's listening, they know what's up

Back in the day not everybody had a cell phone
Back in the day not every rapper claimed to sell blow
Back in the day not everybody was so paranoid
But it was still so hard for us to get along
Back in the day it wasn't all about business
Back in the day people tried to make a difference
Back in the day people cared about the children
But that was then and now things are different

Back in the day before stunting was a habit
When if you got signed then that meant you had talent
When I was young I thought that everything was magic
Now that I'm grown up everything is interactive
Either that or 3D. Now we got 3G
Cell phones, text though. No more cheat sheets
Saturday mornings, we were glued to the tv
Seemed like when you were a kid, life was easy
Back in the day we ain't know about eBay
But you were something special if your phone had 3-way
Holiday specials, summertime heat waves
Weekend cartoons, lessons were on the weekdays
We didn't need guns. we knew how to fight
Mike Jackson was alive but not always white
Mike tyson still fighting then he caught that bite
And we didn't know Kobe. We just ball like mike
Jordan. And it was Important that we had family
Children were the future so we spoiled them like canned meat
Pokemon, tickle me elmos and furby
And everybody had a couple throwback jerseys
Before we had blogs, we played around with pogs
Watching Snick and trading Pokemon cards
I miss those days of way back when
I wish that I could go back and do it all again

Back in the day it wasn't all about business
Back in the day people tried to make a difference
Back in the day people cared about the children
But that was then and now things are different
Back in the day not everybody had a cell phone
Back in the day not every rapper claimed to sell blow
Back in the day not everybody was so paranoid
But it was still so hard for us to get along
