Once Upon a Time
Words and Music by Mark Clayton
Once upon a time was all you heard
Every time they told a story
Now the story's been told
It's been lived, it's grown old
It's our once upon a time story
In chapter one we had such fun
Holding hands in the sun
Oh, how we thought those days would last forever
By chapter three we bought a home
Fixed it up, made it our own
We couldn't wait to start a family
Well the years they move on
Some go right, some go wrong
We'll share the blame for all the sorrow
Everyday a lesson learned
Every year takes it turn
And just like life they're no exceptions
By chapter five our child arrived
How our lives came alive
All the love and joy was so amazing
Chapter eight came too fast
How you wish first grade could last
But, in a blink of an eye her prom was waiting
I love the way you look tonight
I love the way you make me feel
I love the way you hold me close at night
And baby, and baby you know that it's true
Many chapters to write
Every page another night
And what the words will be I wonder
Still the story goes on
Just like dusk follows dawn
With words that sometimes rhyme
Like once upon a time
