There's a carnival in town
People come from all around to see
But there's nothing there for me
'Cause the man who pulls the strings
Doesn't know a thing about kind words
Or at least that's what I've heard
The people there in his employ
Never show an ounce of joy
That doesn't take a therapist to see
But he preaches like he saves their souls
Like his carnival helps make them whole
This shameless man we all call Raymond E
Well the truth is, I know all too well
Of the Hell that carnival contains
And the people who remain
I used to play a part
But my heart soon told me something's wrong
And I didn't stay there long
What exactly should I do
Dear friends, how can I help you
Help you all to finally look and see
If I tell you squarely to your face
You'll scoff and move back to your place
Knowing no one else but Raymond E
