Off to the side
By the window
Watching folks go by
As she kindles
A fire in my eyes
I'd go over
But I've been denied
And I'm sober
I know that she wants
Someone artsy
I know that she likes
Guys with heartbeats
I know that she wants
What she never got
From a love that she lost
When she got a job
And moved out to the coast
On the water
Sometimes when I'm close
I'll spot her
Drifting out in space
In a sweater
That's seen better days
Yet I've never
Been so taken back
By a figure
Takes her coffee black
And add a sugar
Then she flips her hair
With the faintest intentions
But blows me away
I pay too much attention
Then outshines the light
Like a star would
Sometimes we meet eyes
And I wonder
If she daydreams too
About getting to know me
Or if I'm a face
In the back of her story
Oh well
Guess there's one way to tell
