Double bagged tea
With double locked doors
They keep you safe
For now
In an old house
With decorative walls
They tell tales
So do the floors
Ghosts will come to argue
As they gather in a heap
They will make demands of you
And never let you sleep
Pockets all packed
I empty them out
Receipts from a different day
I flew an old kite
All dusty and faded
It will find a way
You and I have grown apart
But allies we remain
All the knowledge left behind
The habit I retain
Timelines stretch and grow and wear and tear
And bend and rip and break and mend
Many recommend you are adaptable
Read a new book
Watch a new show
I'm closing my eyes for now
Shed a few tears
I'm grinning from ear to ear
I'm trying to push
We'll take unemployment
And he'll wear the hand me downs
But we'll keep them warm and fed
And pretend that hats are crowns
People live and learn and grow and trip
And fall and cry and one day die
For now I'm just a fly on the wall
