I used to sing in a little bar in old Berlin
It wasn't much but I could not complain
And every night a lovely looking blonde came in
To see the show I know her name - Marlene
She seemed sweet and innocent but she was quick
She was no Blue Angel, she played a dirty Die-trick
I'll never work again she has seen to it
Though every night she performs it's packed
She played a clever game I should have seen through it
I gave her just what she lacked Marlene stole my act
So every night she'd come along to watch the show
Making sketches of my swansdown coats
And every night I stepped into the limelight's glow
And she'd be there front-row-centre taking notes
She stole all my outfits, every detail, every stitch
And then she stole eyebrows and my accent. What a bitch!
I'll never work again she has seen to it
Though every night she performs it's packed
She played a clever game I should have seen through it
I gave her just what she lacked Marlene stole my act
So now I work in drag bars just to earn a crust
Oh to face such ignominy
And people often compliment me saying just
How well I imitate her when she's the one who's imitating me
If I met Marlene I'd say 'hey' and 'what the heck'
Then I'd smile and shake her hand and break her bloody neck
I'll never work again she has seen to it
Though every night she performs it's packed
She played a clever game I should have seen through it
I gave her just what she lacked Marlene stole
Its taken its toll, yes, Marlene stole my act
