Mr C - Badinerie (Eduqas GCSE Music Revision Song) Lyrics

Mr C - Badinerie (Eduqas GCSE Music Revision Song) Lyrics

This is Eduqas music, looking at the set works
It's a revision guide, the kind designed to send you berserk
In the exam, remember this song and start to smirk
I'm coming for your recall, in your subconscious I lurk
Mr Canny on the shake down to drop the itinerary
We need this in your head, in your long term memory
The knowledge has to remain, it can't be temporary
So let's dissect, fact check, and break down Badinerie
J.S Bach, the mans the best
The Baroque period is where we set the test
Think Harpsichords, lords, ladies, stately home dance halls
Where rich folk scoff and the rest are damn poor
The Harpsichord and Cello make the basso continuo
But there's more timbres than that, this isn't a duo
Add string section and flute, but not a concerto
The dynamics are terraced so you won't see crescendos
But in fact, throughout they're staying mainly forte
A quick, light movement's what Bachs trying to portray
The tempo is allegro, and that goes to say
That the speed is quick, just like the vocals I lay
The structure is binary, so there's 2 parts you see
But each part is repeated, so it's AABB
Section A's from bar naught to bar 16 it's naughty
So section B's from bar 16 to bar 40
Throughout, it's diatonic, notes from the key
With loads of perfect and imperfect cadences you see
Chords are often in inversions, they help with the drive
Occasional 3rd inversion with the 7th of chord 5
Don't forget the big one, it's bound to arrive
The neapolitan 6th, it's in bar 35
Suspension chords are also occasionally used
Like beat one of bar eight, bar ten and 32

Now look the flautist has gotta be good to stand on the stage
Because the flute part has got a two octave pitch range
Trills, sequences, appoggiaturas on the page
Because in Baroque, these ornaments were all the rage
Let's break it down further, there's no need to vote
A trill goes back and forth quickly between 2 notes
A sequence repeats a chunk of tune higher or lower
An appoggiatura's a grace note played slower
Let me tell you where to find these, let's help you out
Trills are all over the place without a doubt
Beat one of bar eight, ten, 30, 32
And bar 15 and 27, both on beat two
Sequences are seen between bar six and ten
And also 28 to bar 32 again
Beat one of bars 33 and 40 sound purer
You need to know this is where to find appoggiaturas

The articulation in the flute part has some slurs indeed
But mainly due to technique and need to breathe
The strings are generally staccato because of the speed
But that's not marked on the score, it's the performers need
It's simple duple time, so it's a 2/4 flavour
The rhythms use nearly all normal and semi quavers
They're used in simple ostinatos to form the rhythm
Of the two musical motif's that we're given
If you learn this song, you'll have played a blinder
Section A starts in B and ends F sharp minor
Section B's the reverse, it starts in F sharp
But by the end of the section it's back to B minor
I hope you don't mind this, forgive me the lecture
It's a melody and accompaniment, homophonic texture
The Flute and the Cello give the main stuff favourably
Though the 1st Violins participate occasionally
The 2nd Violin and Viola provide harmony
But their parts are less busy, they'd just be sat calmly
I hope that this helps you, ask any questions please
Just go out there and smash your GCSEs
