The old north wind's tuggin' at my coat
As I face into the storm
I hitch me a ride heading back to home
Where I know it's dry and warm
I can almost smell supper cookin'
And hear the crackle of the fire
For too many years I've been away
But now it's my hearts desire (yes)
(Yes)(but)
Now it's my heart's desire
Just to sit before the fire
To put my feet up and rest a while
To hear papa's words so wise
To look into mama's eyes
And bask in the warmth of her smile
When I turned sixteen I couldn't wait
To shake the dust of the farm
I headed straight for the city lights
Captivated by its charms
But I soon got in with the wrong crowd
And I guess you know the rest
I spent some time in the big house
Surrounded by Satan's best (but)
The old air brakes of that rig came on
And stopped in front of my gate
As fast as I could I ran up the lane
'Cause you know I couldn't wait
I kissed my ma and I hugged my pa
Tossed another log on the fire
I said I'll never leave here again
'Cause this is my hearts desire
Yes this is my hearts desire
Just to sit before the fire
To put my feet up and rest a while
To hear papa's words so wise
To look into mama's eyes
And bask in the warmth of her smile
