I tripped over time and was shocked to discover
That regardless how agile one can never recover
A minute passed bye
You can stumble or mumble some crass obscene chatter
But find in the end it just doesn't matter
How hard that you try
Time is a friend or a brutal task master
Sometimes it moves slow; sometimes it moves faster
But it never stands still
Times when we're on time, or early; times when we are late
Times we urge it on and times beg it to wait
But it never quite will
I slipped on a slick spot of slow indecision
Between firm resolve and a needless revision
Of one more good plan
You can amble and ramble through clear headed thinking
But find in the end that you're stubbornly sinking
In one more firm stand
A break with a burden can feel like relief
A lie to yourself can feel like a belief
That you wanted to hear
Flatter yourself with some quick hocus pocus
But sooner or later you come back into focus
On something you fear
We often entertain ourselves with conscious games we play'
We often trick ourselves with the clever things we say
